Oliver Lutz, regarded as one of the most innovative and accomplished electric bass players in contemporary jazz, takes a bold new step with Calamari Fantasy. This album represents the culmination of his journey as a composer over the past three years. It combines deep grooves, futuristic synths, and daring improvisation, pushing the boundaries of jazz, experimental, funk, and fusion genres, with hints of cinematic flair. Collaborating with saxophonist Tineke Postma, keyboardist Pablo Held, and drummer Peter Gall, Lutz has created a sonic landscape that is both expansive and intimate.
The album is a testament to Lutz’s dedication to exploring fresh musical approaches while remaining true to his roots. The compositions reflect his unique perspective, as he ventured into new territory by composing on electric bass and guitar to craft melodies and harmonies that feel authentic and deeply personal.
Recorded during an intense session at Fattoria Musica in Osnabrück, the chemistry among the musicians is undeniable.
